Big Opening at the Tweed River Art Gallery

A huge crowd of art lovers came to celebrate the evening of mutiple openings at the Tweed River Art Gallery (see next News Item.)

The gallery's director Gary Corbett gave a warm welcome before opening the exhibition German Expressionism - an exciting collection of prints from the Lebovic Gallery.

Edmund Capon gave an amusing account of what really goes on behind the scenes during the Archibald Prize selection process. Eventually he declared open the 2006 Archibald Prize.

Former leader of the Australian National Party and gallery benefactor, Doug Anthony related some of the struggles by many dedicated people over the years culminating in the building of this world class art gallery.

To a rapturous reception Margaret Olley AC, AO thrilled the audience with stories of her childhood in the Tweed Valley.
